Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has expressed hope next year will bring in more investments to Maldives.
Speaking to CNBC on how the Maldives safely brought tourists back during the pandemic, the tourism minister said 2020 has been challenging for the tourism sector of the Maldives, adding however 2021 is promising. Noting 12 tourist establishments were touted to open within this year, minister highlighted the establishments could not be opened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister expressed hope all these establishments will opened within next year. He said the opening of new tourist establishments will bringing in more investments to the country.
Further, the minister noted the aim of the stakeholders of the industry is to revive the tourism industry as soon as possible. He noted all stakeholders in the industry are working together to revive the tourism industry which has been hit hard by the global pandemic.
