No quarantine required for locals returning with negative PCR test

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated locals and foreign workers returning to the Maldives from abroad are not required to undergo quarantine if they present a negative PCR test conducted within 96 hours before arrival.

HPA has amended the guidelines on travel and quarantine, to ease some of the restrictions placed to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission. HPA said the amended guidelines will take effect on December 20.

As per the amended guidelines, individuals returning with a negative PCR test taken within 96 before arrival are not required to undergo quarantine after arriving in the Maldives. Meanwhile, children under the age of 1 are not required to take a PCR test.

Furthermore, HPA states individuals travelling to islands on short trips for a specific purpose are no longer required to take PCR tests before departure. However, HPA has warned action will be taken if such individuals violate the health and safety guidelines during their trip.

HPA has been easing some of the travel restrictions based on the results of the COVID-19 seroprevalence survey carried out in the Maldives. As many people are travelling during the school holidays, HPA has advised all to adhere to the HPA guidelines when travelling.
