HPA lifts curfew imposed in Greater Male’ Region

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has lifted the curfew imposed in the Greater Male’ Region.

In an announcement issued on December 18, HPA stated the curfew imposed in Male’, Hulhumale’ and Villimale’ from 12:00 a.m to 04:00 a.m has been lifted, effective from December 19. However, HPA has advised the public to continue adhering to the health and safety guidelines in order to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

HPA has been easing some of the restrictions imposed in the Maldives due to the COVID-19 pandemic, following the decrease in the COVID-19 positivity rate and unlinked cases in recent weeks. In this regard, HPA has decided to permit sporting events and special functions or ceremonies to be held in accordance to HPA guidelines. The agency has also lifted the restriction on gatherings of more than 15 people.

However, some of the restrictions imposed by HPA will remain in place until further notice. As such, face masks will remain mandatory, while individuals travelling from Male’ Region to other islands are still required to undergo quarantine.

HPA has recently shortened the 14-day quarantine period for travelers to 10 days. Meanwhile, locals and foreign workers returning from abroad are not required to undergo quarantine if they present a negative PCR test conducted within 96 hours before arrival.
