Fieldwork begins for water and sewerage project in Fainu

Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced fieldwork for the project to establish the water supply and sewerage systems in Fainu, Raa Atoll.

MWSC Chairman Ahmed Mausoom, Managing Director Hassan Shah, and Parliamentarian Hassan Ahmed participated in the groundbreaking ceremony in Fainu. Speaking at the ceremony, Parliamentarian Hassan Ahmed said the government is committed to fulfilling the expectations of the people with reliable projects.

Also at the ceremony, Managing Director Hassan Shah said MWSC needs the support of island residents to complete the water supply and sewerage project within the deadline. He also thanked President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for giving his full support to completing such projects during the COVID-19 pandemic.

MWSC has so far completed 60% of the Reverse Osmosis (RO) building and 9% of the overall project. The project is expected to provide clean water to 130 households in Fainu with two reverse osmosis plants, which are expected to generate 20 tonnes of clean water per day. The project will also establish one container capable of preserving 490 cubic metres of water and two containers that can preserve 175 cubic metres of water each. Furthermore, MWSC will be connecting 130 households to the sewerage system.

The government contracted MWSC to establish the water supply and sewerage systems in Fainu in November 2020. MWSC is tasked with completing the project in June 2022 at a cost of USD 4 million.
