ACC receives case over issues in providing parking slots in Male'

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) receives a case regarding issues in the draw held by the Male' City to provide parking slots in Male' City. ACC has revealed the case was submitted by a member of the public.

Male' City Council stated it received 969 applications after opening the opportunity to apply for parking slots in Male' City in July. The city council stated draw was held in a transparent manner with the media in attendance. However, the public has expressed concern on social media over the draw.

Deputy Mayor of Male' City Council Ahmed Nareesh said all applicants were assigned numbers for the draw, which was used to pick the winners. Nareesh said the council will soon begin signing the agreements with the applicants chosen from the draw, and leasing the parking slots.

Male' City Council is set to lease 211 parking slots from 10 areas, which includes 123 parking slots at intersections connected to Ameenee Magu, six slots at Alimas Carnival, and 58 slots around the Salman Mosque. The council will also lease 24 parking slots at Artificial Beach for private cars.

The council has been working to establish parking zones for four-wheeled and two-wheeled vehicles to solve the shortage of parking in the capital city.
