Vice President inaugurates newly renovated STO Supermarket

Vice President Faisal Naseem has reopened the State Trading Organisation (STO) People’s Choice Supermart with major renovations.

Speaking at the re-opening ceremony, Vice President Naseem praised STO for allowing private businesses to market their products at the supermarket and said it was an important step to expand the Maldives economy. The vice president said private businesses are crucial for economic recovery. He also noted the efforts made by STO to maintain the stock of essential products in the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting that STO was able to establish policies to prevent the hike in prices and work as a public service instead of a business.

Also at the ceremony, Managing Director of STO Hussain Amr noted the many achievements and milestones reached by the state-owned company and said the renovations at the supermarket come with major changes to the company as well. He said the supermarket has been reopened with products from nine businesses and that STO is in discussions to collaborate with more businesses.

The new businesses marketing their products at the supermarket include New Education Private Limited, City Investment Private Limited, Madihaa Company Private Limited, Asrafee Bookshop, Poise Perfumes, Maxcom Technologies Private Limited, Marathon Shop Maldives, and Peekaboo.
