FSM adds larger barge to fuel carrier fleet

Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM) has added a new barge, Femunu, to its fuel carrier fleet. It is the largest barge in the fleet, with the capacity to carry 360,000ltrs.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Mohamed Gassam said the new barge will make it much easier to transport fuel to the atolls. He noted that private fuel sellers are facing shortages and that the new barge is expected to solve the issue.

Additionally, FSM contracted an Egyptian company in 2019 to build four barges to add to its fuel carrier fleet and brought two of the barges in May. The two barges added to the fleet were named MV Hunike and MV Bureki.

Currently, FSM uses 20 barges to supply fuel to the atolls and also operates a fuel tanker capable of carrying 8.5 million litres of fuel.
