Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) has decided to build a motorsports arena in Thilafushi.
HDC signed an agreement with the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment to allocate land for the motorsports arena to be established in Thilafushi Phase II, with a dedicated expanse of 10 hectares earmarked for the venture. The agreement was signed by the Managing Director of HDC Ahmed Athif and Deputy Minister Azmoon Ahmed. President of the Racing Association of the Maldives Mohamed Shamih was also in attendance.
At the signing ceremony, Managing Director Athif said the motorsports arena will have a world-class racing track that fits international standards. The arena will host various disciplines of motorsports instead of just racing. The main objective of the project is to provide a solution to the problems faced by the youth due to the lack of a suitable area for motorsports.
