Applications open for representatives for parliamentary election

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has commenced the application process for candidate representatives for the upcoming parliamentary election.

Interested individuals are invited to submit their applications before February 24. To qualify, candidates must be Maldivian citizens aged 18 or older, with no current criminal convictions or pending election-related duties assigned by the commission.

Additionally, prospective representatives must not hold positions as judges, members, or heads of independent institutions, or serve in the Maldivian police or armed forces. They also should not be under arrest on criminal charges and must not have violated any laws or been convicted of electoral offenses within the past five years.

Candidates' representatives will also receive digital passes during the parliamentary election. Applications can be sent via email or delivered to the ECM headquarters at the Dharubaaruge convention centre.

The ECM has released the list of candidates for the parliamentary election, with a total of 381 candidates contesting for 93 constituencies. Notably, four candidates have withdrawn their applications.
