Southern atolls will be priority for housing projects: President

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the four southern atolls will be the focal point for upcoming housing projects.

Speaking at the meeting, President Dr. Muizzu stressed the significance of Thinadhoo in his regional development plan. He also pledged to prioritise the advancement of the city.

Regarding the development of an international airport in Thinadhoo, President Dr. Muizzu disclosed plans to expand the reclaimed land by 50 hectares for the project. He outlined that the airport would feature a 4km Code F runway adjacent to the reclaimed area, emphasising its transformation into a world-class facility with distinctive features. He also highlighted the eco-friendly nature of the airport project, stating it would generate numerous employment opportunities and commence expeditiously, with a targeted completion within two years.

Furthermore, Presiident underscored his commitment to establishing a comprehensive tertiary hospital in Thinadhoo, emphasising housing as his foremost developmental focus. He outlined that the largest number of housing initiatives under regional development would be implemented in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Gaafu Dhaalu, and Gaafu Alifu Atoll, with numerous housing agreements anticipated soon. He also assured the resumption of the gas distribution project in Thinadhoo, pledging attention to all island residents' needs.
