Peaceful election, no worrisome complaints: ECM

President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) Fuwad Thaufeeq has affirmed that the ongoing parliamentary election in the country is progressing smoothly without significant issues.

Addressing the progress of the parliamentary election, Fuwad highlighted that the polling process is proceeding safely and efficiently, thanks to well-established arrangements. He expressed expectations that over 80% of eligible voters will participate in this election, with more than half of them already having cast their ballots.

Additionally, Fuwad said that while some complaints have been submitted regarding the election, none of them pose significant concerns. He also assured that any complaints and issues will be addressed following established procedures.

ECM stated that a total of 284,663 individuals are eligible to vote in the parliamentary election on April 21. A total of 113,627 individuals, which accounts for 39.92% of eligible voters, have already voted as of 1300hrs. The voting commenced at 0800hrs and will continue until 1730hrs.
