The Maldives has secured four medals at the South Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship held in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
The nation celebrated a silver medal in the under-19 mixed doubles category, thanks to the commendable efforts of Fathimath Dheema Ali and Akhyar Ahmed Khalid. Despite a strong performance against the Indian pair Bejaji and Prita, they were defeated in straight sets, with scores of 9-11, 12-14, and 8-11.
In addition to the silver, the Maldives earned three bronze medals. Dheema, alongside Mishka Mohamed, clinched bronze in the under-19 women’s doubles. Umair Mohamed Muizzu and Akhyar Ahmed Khalid secured another bronze in the under-19 men’s doubles. Aishath Alsa Nafiz and Aishath Malka Thaanis won the third bronze in the under-15 women’s doubles.
The tournament concluded with a ceremony officiated by First Lady Saijida Mohamed, marking a significant and proud moment for Maldivian table tennis on the international stage.
