President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the development of university campuses in the atolls will reduce the high costs incurred by students traveling to Male’ for higher education.
Speaking at the Youth Coffee with the President forum, President Muizzu said a major infrastructural project has been launched to provide higher education opportunities in every atoll.
Speaking on youth concerns over the reliance on the capital Male’ City for higher education, the President said contracts had already been awarded to establish campuses of the Maldives National University (MNU) and the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) in multiple atolls, with student accommodation blocks also being developed in some atolls. This will allow students to seek higher education in locations other than Male’, and will reduce the financial strain of settling in Male’, he added.
