205 students awarded Government scholarships in 2025

The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development (MoHE) has stated that 205 students were awarded scholarships in 2025.

According to data released by the Ministry, the government invested USD 14,362,041.36 in scholarship opportunities over the past year. Scholarships were awarded to 205 new recipients, comprising 120 female and 85 male students.

Over the past two years, the government has committed more than USD 30,470,817.48 towards scholarships. During this period, a total of 411 students received scholarships, including 262 females and 149 males.

In terms of successful completion, 180 students graduated last year, bringing the total number of scholarship graduates over the past two years to 441.

At present, 602 students are pursuing studies under scholarship programmes both in the Maldives and in 20 countries abroad. This group includes 388 female and 214 male students.

The Ministry noted that both the Presidential Scholarship and the government-administered High Achiever’s Scholarship are fully funded schemes. In addition, scholarships and grants are also provided through foreign governments and international partners to support tertiary education.

The National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research has also recently launched the Signature Research Scholarship for heritage studies. Under this programme, 40 scholarships were awarded last year.
