Elections Commission of Maldives has granted permission to form a new political party in Maldives.
Permission was granted to former member of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and prominent lawyer Abdulla Haseen to form Maldives Labour and Social Democratic Party (MLSDP), according to elections commission.
Meanwhile, in April, the commission rejected submissions requesting to form two political parties, as the necessary paperwork were not completed. While elections commission has given permission to form a new party, there are six political parties currently registered in Maldives.
