Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar has assured the military forces are not active in any political affairs. The defence minister made the statement in the wake of social media posts portraying pictures of statements said to be circulated in a military headquarter in the capital, Male’ City.
Following the posts, Defence Minister Adam Shareef reaffirmed the professionalism of the military forces before and after the presidential election. Noting military personnel must refrain from political activities, the minister expressed with gratitude no such actions have been seen from the military forces.
The pictures circulated in social media depict notes sent by military officers to Chief of Defence Force, urging to respect the decision made by the people in the presidential election and to facilitate a smooth transfer of powers.
