The Indian low-cost carrier, IndiGo, has launched its first inaugural flight from Kochi to Velana International Airport (VIA).
IndiGo will be operating double daily flights to Maldives with its A320 aircraft. A warm traditional event with water salute welcomed IndiGo at VIA and the inaugural flight was celebrated with an official function.
The function was joined by Ambassador of India to Maldives Akilesh Mishra, Representative of Maldives Civil Aviation Authority Abdulla Rasheed, Vice President, Airport Operation and Customer Service of IndiGo Cynthia Crabill Szadokierski and the acting Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Moosa Solih.
At the function, the acting Managing Director Moosa Solih expressed delight to have IndiGo as the newest partner and expressed confidence the airline will add value to VIA. He also said VIA is on the verge of transforming to a brand new airport and the establishment of the Code F runway is the first major milestone of the project. IndiGo will foster travel and trade between the two countries and thanked IndiGo for choosing VIA in their route expansion, according to the acting managing director.
The Ambassador of India to Maldives Akilesh Mishra said both countries relish good relations and with the operations of IndiGo, it has the possibility to have people to people connection from both India and Maldives.
