Prosecutor General's Office has decided to withdraw the bribery charges against Parliamentarian Faris Maumoon.
In a letter sent to Faris Maumoon, Prosecutor General's Office said the state has dropped the charges, adding the case has been sent back to Maldives Police Service for further review.
On July 19, the Criminal Court initially ordered Faris to be kept in custody until the end of investigation but was later released Faris was charged with bribing lawmakers to impeach the then pro-government Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh and attempts to overthrow the government.
