Aasandha Company Limited has transferred an additional batch of Maldivian patients who require advanced medical treatment to India.
The state-owned company administering and managing the national health insurance scheme said a total of 60 Maldivians travelled to India on July 29. The company said the patients will under undergo quarantine at an accommodation block in Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). The patients will undergo treatment during the quarantine period.
Aasandha has been transferring critical care patients to India, under special arrangements made by the government of India. All Maldivian patients transferred to India are undergoing treatment at KIMS and Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS).
Aasandha further revealed three patients who had traveled to India for treatment on July 14 tested positive for COVID-19 and have been isolated, along with their close contacts. The patients will receive the necessary treatment despite their isolation.
The government of India decided to permit Maldivian patients requiring advanced medical treatment to travel to India, under a special permit following a request from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Aasandha has sent a total of 147 patients in three batches since June 29 for treatment in India. The company utilises a flight from the national airline, Maldivian, to transfer local patients for treatment in India.
