BML donates motorised wheelchairs to recipients in 20 islands

Bank of Maldives (BML) has donated an additional 34 motorised wheelchairs to support people with mobility impairments in 20 islands.

BML stated the wheelchair donation programme is undertaken to enhance the quality of life for people living with disabilities. BML said with the latest donation, the bank’s wheelchair donation programme has now seen the successful delivery of over 170 motorised wheelchairs across the country.

CEO and Managing Director Tim Sawyer stated BML began this program with the aim of delivering wheelchairs to every individual in the country in need of one. He stated BML is proud to continue its work to reach this objective, adding the motorised wheelchairs provide greater freedom for people with disabilities to enjoy productive, independent lives wherever they are. He added it is heartening to see the benefits of this program across the country.

BML continues to support people with disabilities through various programmes in addition to the wheelchair donation programme. Most recently, the bank donated USD6,500 to Maldives Association for Persons with Disabilities to run its ‘Healthy PWDs program’ in December last year.
