President stresses Maldivians' deep-rooted desire for independence as policy foundation

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised the intrinsic desire of the Maldivian people to remain independent, stating that this principle is the foundation of all his policies. The President made these remarks while addressing the nation during the National Day celebrations.

In his speech, President Muizzu highlighted that National Day is a moment for reflection on the country's past and an opportunity to gather renewed courage to build its future. He pointed out that history has repeatedly shown the Maldives to be under the watchful eyes of foreign powers. The nation’s heritage, he said, is a testament to the relentless efforts of our ancestors to defend the country against external threats.

The President noted that the Maldivian people have always been heroes of freedom, and it is in their nature to remain free. He stressed that his policies are built on this very foundation, which is why foreign troops are not stationed in the Maldives today. He also mentioned the deployment of the latest technology to safeguard the country and the introduction of a special system of nationalism aimed at fostering education and awareness. This initiative, according to the President, is crucial for maintaining the nation’s sovereignty.

President Muizzu further highlighted the historical importance of the seas as the lifeblood of the Maldivian people. He warned that losing control over the seas would lead to famine, underscoring the need to build a generation of hardworking, loyal citizens dedicated to the nation.

The President concluded by stressing the importance of future generations becoming the true stewards of the land. He remarked that the power and influence of any place lie in the hands of those who control its wealth and resources, which are secured through hard work and skill.
